Oxalis 'Purple Shamrock' ---- 'Love Plant'

Oxalis Triangularis commonly known as False Shamrock, Purple Shamrock or Love Plant is typically grown as a houseplant but can also be grown outside in USDA hardiness zones 8a-11 but preferably in light shade.

The beautiful purple leaves are in the shapes of shamrocks with lovely two tone purple/red pattern. The flowers are a whitish pink colour that open during the day and close in the evening. The name Love Plant may refer to the heart shaped leaves. Awwww

Their roots are in the shape of small tubers/bulbs which can be divided to propagate the plant. This particular plant was eaten whole by my chickens last winter (I know I know!! must keep em out of the garden)  but luckily the bulbs survived in the ground and lo and behold about 10 days ago the leaves re-appeared and now you can see the delicate flowers once again.

Note to Self:--- Must propagate this plant!!!

Here you can see the same flowers closing at evening time.
